A Return to Oil Painting

Artists Statement

wooden Artists palette with oil paints, brushes, medium cups, and palette knivesI paint because I wish to instill an appreciation of the objects which I have represented visually. To allow you to slow down and simply look around you, to truly connect you to the images surrounding us and realize the beauty of everyday moments and objects.

My creative process can be distilled down into an appreciation of the everyday. Objects of life that we have deemed mundane, or irrelevant, appear throughout my work. A simple piece of food, a quiet landscape, the random patterns that cross our eyes once they are closed. With these images in mind, I attempt to create an intimate environment, instilled with a sense of peace, simplicity, and beauty.

I have completely devoted myself to the practices of traditional oils. I have moved away from most modern materials, instead taking hold of those both natural and time tested. Panels, bees wax, linseed oil, turpentine, chalk, and eggs yolks are all elements of my works. These have allowed me a better understanding and closer feel to the process, and my relationship towards it.

Most recentelly I have become facinated with Vanitas still life works. Withint their deep symbolic meanings and strictly controlled environments I have found a new means in which I can fully express my most prudent views.
